The First Few Days

Some swelling and tenderness is normal and peaks around day two or three. In the first few days:

  • Rest and avoid strenuous activity
  • Use a cold compress on the outside of the face
  • Stick to soft, lukewarm foods
  • Avoid smoking, which slows healing considerably
  • Take pain relief as advised

Keep the area clean and brush gently
Rinse with warm salt water after day one
Eat soft foods and stay hydrated
Take medication exactly as prescribed
Attend every review appointment

Smoking and alcohol while healing

When to Call Us

Most healing is uneventful. Contact the office promptly if you notice:

  • Pain that increases rather than settles after day three
  • Swelling that spreads or worsens after day three
  • Bleeding that does not stop with gentle pressure
  • A fever, or a bad taste that will not clear
  • The implant or temporary feeling loose

If you have difficulty breathing or swallowing, or swelling spreading toward the eye or neck, treat it as a medical emergency and go to the nearest emergency room.
